Checked out a few new places. Ramen Palor & Ramen Dojo in San Mateo, Shoki 2 in Sacramento.
Ramen Palor & Shoki are very good. Ramen Dojo is very spicy so it’s hard to compare. Orenchi is probably still top dog.

Tonight we met up with Aunty Sachi & Uncle Russell. We decided to take advantage of Oakland’s Restaurant week. Aunty chose Camino on Grand Avenue. The prefix menu was vegetarian which is something I usually shy away from, but I’m trying to eat better so I went ahead and tried it. I ended up eating everything. The dishes were simple but good.
Sandy’s dinner plans fell through so she called me up wanting to know if I was interested in a Dine About Town date-nite. Should I have been hurt that I was her 2nd choice? Neh just eat up and have her pay! (just jokin Hun) Plouf is located in a small alley that I almost missed. We dined outside under the heaters. Sandy had the calamari & pasta while I enjoyed the beet & endive salad & mussels. Dessert was pot de creme & crepes.
Was working right across the street from Orenchi and got done around dinner time, mmmm…
I don’t know why I but I found this so funny that I had to buy it. Perhaps it reminded me of a gasoline additive for the car and I am into higher performance rice.
We’re trying to eat better so today we made tomato, mozzarella & basil sammies with a chipotle mayo. Uh don’t look at the chips though.
I love my new S100 for its small size but it’s hard to shoot a good off camera flash portrait… til now. I purchased 4 Vivitar VIV-SF3000 (less than $20 ea) mounted them in my 4 square softbox atop a monopod. While I can’t stand to see myself in photos the slave flash set up worked well.
Today I met Arlene in San Mateo at Ramen Parlor. The Tonkotsu Ramen was pretty damn good. I’ll have to take Sandy there for her opinion.
Itz blooming!
Jon had a concert scheduled in Reno so we decided tag along and spend the weekend. We stayed at the Siena right across the venue. I had a bit of work to do in town on Friday and was lucky enough to have dinner with Arlene at Da Vinci’s in the hotel.
Sandy flew in on Saturday and we got a peek of Jon’s performance during a rehearsal at the Pioneer Center.
For lunch we found a Filipino place call Pearl of the East. Pork BBQ, sisig, chop suey and rice.
Later that night we had dinner with Jon & Kathy at La Famiglia. While the food was great, the accordion music was not to my liking. We spent the rest of the evening strolling down the main drag in Reno.
On Sunday morning, while Sandy went to church with cousins Anna & Steve, I pigged out at Peg’s Glorified Ham n Eggs . The Bananas Foster Belgian Waffle was extremely delicious, but my pants became quite tight after that.
Needless to say the concert was incredible. I can’t say enough about Jon’s musical prowess. It’s hard to believe a no-talent-hack like me can be related to him.
Monday morning we awoke to a bit of snow. We started our drive home soon after breakfast but made a stop in Sacramento for some ramen at Shoki Ramen House.
