The life and times of a true knucklehead – No photos to be used without permission
We spent all day surrounded by burdz. After getting Vega & Cosmo cleaned up we returned them back to Jim & Kelly.
Then went to dinner at the Tribune Tower in Oakland.
For whatever reason Humphrey allowed me to get very close to him today. I shot this on my new SL1 with a 100mm f2.8 macro lens.
Tonight we met up with Andrea & Karl at Speisekammer. We are not well versed in German fuud so Andrea was the perfect dinnermate. It was also a chance to test my new SL1.
My Canon SL1 arrived Friday and a used 40mm STM lens separately. I’m constantly trying to find the right camera with the speed and quality of my big cam in a small package. The S100, G1X & EOS-M are all good cameras but they are much too slow when trying to shoot a constantly moving Noah or a stupid burd that doesn’t understand my, “freeze I’m trying to take your picture” commands.
S100 is slow and does not have a viewfinder. I love that it focuses at a very close 1.2″ macro. No port for a cable release. Small sensor.
G1x has a big sensor which produces great images. It has a hot shoe, but 1.3′ min focus distance. It is also slow.
EOS-M is versatile with the ability to take all my EOS lenses & accessories. Slow focus (wait new firmware update), no viewfinder, no port for a cable release. I’ve changed settings while wearing it around my neck as my big belly rubs on the touchscreen. No on board flash.
So if I have to shoot something fast moving I have to bring my big cam which I hate to do as it gets to be a burden. I’m hoping the SL1 will fill that void. More to come…
Good news Tawny is in town for the SF Marathon on Sunday (½ marathon). She arrived with macaroons in hand! Saturday we took the bus into the city to pick up her bib and check out the farmers market at the Ferry Building. Then we drove to Napa for lunch at Morimoto’s.
In the evening Geo landed on a flight from Manila, so we were a foursome. Sunday Tawny forced us to drop her off at the start line at 5:00AM. By 7:15AM she crossed the finish line, her personal best BTW.
I had no idea Lindsay was a dancer, til by chance I noticed a FB posting for a recital. I couldn’t make the show but photographed the rehearsal. Ever since then I’ve been wanting to shoot her in a controlled environment. Well yesterday I got my wish…
An error on my part caused too much of the messy background to come in & I had lots of post processing to do, which I’m not real good at.
I have to say Lindsay was so easy to work with I look forward to working with her again.
Sandy called me from the kitchen and pointed out back. I was attempting to hold my big lens steady while waiting for Mama to come with dinner. This whole sequence took about an hour. Meanwhile my nose was running, legs & back were cramping.
Lots of feathered conflict over the lagoon the past couple of days. Hummingburds chasing crows, crows chasing vultures, ducks chasing ducks. No one is getting along.
We both thought Angel Fish would be a good idea tonight as it’s Sandy’s birthday.
We have plans for this Saturday…
Spotted a baby hummer in the backyard today.
